Zvi Hecker

Zvi Hecker – born in Krakow in 1931, grown up in Samarkand, studied architecture on Techion in Haifa and painting in Avni Institute of Art and Design in Tel Aviv. He taught architecture on Laval's University in Quebek and on the University of Applied Arts in Wien. In 1960 he started to focus on practical work in Tel Aviv and since 1991 he's working in Berlin.
Among his works in Israel there is the Municipal House in Bat Yam in Tel Aviv and appartments in Dubiner's house (together with Alfred Neumann and Eldar Sharon), spiral appartments in Ramat Gan, museum Palmachu in Tel Aviv (together with Rafi Segal) and the areal of the military academy in Negev desert. In Europe he designed jewish school of Heinz Galinski in Berlin and a memorial with symbolic rows of benches for the former synagogue on Lindestrasse in Berlin (together with Eyal Weizmann and Micha Ullman), jewish cultural centre in Duisburg and barracks of queen Maxima on Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.German Critics Award for architecture and in 1999 Rechter's Award for Architecture in Israel. In 1991, together with other architects, he represented Israel on the 5th achitectonic bienale in Venice and he participated in 6th, 7th, 9th and 10th one as well. His works are shown in the galleries and museums in many countries.

Zvi Hecker has won numerous architectonic competitions. In 1996 he was awarded the German critics award and in 1999 Rechter's award for architecture in Israel. Since 2013 he's an honorary memeber of the American Architect Guild. He lives and works in Berlin.
