Prague Modern

Architectural City Guide 1850 - 2000

The best from the popular series of architecture guides in a single volume in English. Two hundred important, famous or less known buildings are captured as they cannot be normaly seen - without cars and from high above the pavement, while the black and white photos let the beautiful lines of the houses stand out. The book contains gems from the time of art nouveau, modernism, functionalism, constructivism. Surprisingly even the later years of stalinism or normalization have enriched the face of the city with more than a few extraordinary works, whether social realist, brussel style or brutalist. The photos capture the current state of architecture in the historical centre of Prague and in the ring of the seventeen surrounding parts. There are also clear maps with the objects marked.
