Ada Kaleh. Alter Facts of the Northest Islamic Exclave in Europe After 1902 / Alternativní fakta o nejsevernější islámské exklávě v Evropě po roce 1902
Ada Kaleh was an island enclave of Ottoman Turks on the Danube on the territory of today's Romania. In the 70s it was flooded during the construction of the Iron Gate dam. Nicolae Ceaușescu offered its inhabitants relocation to a different island, where he even moved dispositions of the fortifications of the original island. They didn't take the offer and the "New Ada Kaleh" is until this day an empty and deserted model of the original. The case of the Ada Kaleh island is raising many question and is interesting from the view of environment, history, ethnic as well as aesthetic. It was located close to Slovak, Czech, Serbian, German and Romanian villages, and as such it is a remarkable case of a meeting point of several different language, national and religious groups. The book is based on the programme of Galerie 207 of UMPRUM in the academic year 2014/2015. Graphic arrangement: Filip Kraus.
