Design & transformation: Stories of Czech Design 1990–2020

The catalogue shows through the texts of Lada Hubatová-Vacková, Daniela Kramerová, Hana Machková, Pavla Pauknerová, Klára Peloušková, Radek Sidun, Jiří Suk and Jindřich Vybiral that the term Czech design hides a number of remarkable products and works. It traces the relationship between the transformation of society and design production. It does not focus only on beautiful objects, but tries to approach the background of their creation through the stories of companies whose fates document the specifics of the Central European situation - centuries-old cultural and craft traditions, as well as the constant changes in state formations, economic and political frameworks. The book was published on the occasion of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union and accompanies two exhibitions of the same name at the Design Museum Brussels (7 September 2022-8 January 2023) and at Prague House in Brussels (8 September-2 October 2022).
