Archduke Ferdinand II of Austria and his Summer Palace in Prague

Renesanční letohrádek Hvězda patří k symbolům Prahy. Autoři jej uvedli nejen do kontextu habsburské „rekreační“ architektury , ale také do kontextu architektury evropské. Mezi specifika pražského letohrádku, která text podrobně analyzuje, patří především půdorys šesticípé hvězdy, překvapivá monumentalita stavby a její zdánlivě bezúčelný pevnostní character a mnohovrstevnatá a současně hravá ikonografie bílých štukových reliéfů v interiéru, jejichž podoba evokuje antický Řím. Stejně tak obora, která byla již v renesanci zkrášlena zřízením širokých alejí, křížících se do obrazce hvězdy, je autory knihy chápána jako významný prvek utvářející charakter Hvězdy. Zásadní vliv při budování letohrádku měl pražský místodržící Ferdinand II. Tyrolský (1529–1595), „inventor“ a stavebník Hvězdy. Bohatství motivů a myšlenek, jež mohly být pro umělce Hvězdy určující, zpřístupňuje výpravná obrazová dokumentace knihy, která obsahuje přes 700 snímků, vytvořených speciálně pro tuto publikaci.
